Abstract

A novel low-cytotoxic dinitrosyl iron complex of the general formula [Fe(SL)2(NO)2], where SL is 5-[2-(1H-benzotriazol-1-yl)ethyl]-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiolyl, was prepared. Its structure and properties were investigated theoretically by DFT and experimentally using IR, EPR and 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy. It was found that the complex exhibits high inhibitory activity against phosphodiesterase and is also capable of generating NO, which indicates the likelihood of its high anti-inflammatory activity due to the specific impact on two therapeutic targets simultaneously (i.e., phosphodiesterase and soluble guanylate cyclase).
