Abstract

New spiropyrans of spiro[chromene-2,2'-indoline] family containing long-chain alkoxycarbonyl fragments in the indole moiety were prepared from 4-hydrazinobenzoic acid by a four-step protocol in 40--45% overall yields. The prepared compounds are miscible with components of thermosetting epoxy-amine systems, allowing for their incorporation into a 3D polymer network. After intercalation into polymer matrix, the spiropyrans retained their intrinsic photochromism and showed a crucial increase of relaxation time.
