Abstract
The uncontrolled spread of pathogenic microorganisms is recognized as one of the most serious threats to human health in recent times. Antimicrobial polymers represent an important, rapidly developing strategy for preventing microbial growth and suppressing infection, providing highly effective, broad-spectrum pathogen killing through the physical disruption of cell membranes. The non-specific action of antimicrobial polymers prevents the development of multidrug resistance, making them a promising, sustainable alternative to traditional antibiotics, particularly for medical devices and coating. The review examines the key methods for producing antipathogenic polymer coatings with the contact-active and antifouling mechanisms of antimicrobial action, as well as prospects for further development.
