Abstract

A novel photocatalytic system based on SmCl3 · 6 H2O and Bui2AlH for the reduction of aromatic chlorides is suggested, with benzyl chloride being tested as a model substrate. The optimal reaction conditions have been established, and a plausible photocatalytic reduction mechanism has been proposed, accounting for the formation of all observed reaction products.
