Abstract

The compound K5Nd(MoO4)4, which holds promise for laser applications, was prepared using solid-phase synthesis. Its formation enthalpy, stabilization energy and lattice enthalpy were determined. The absolute value of the lattice enthalpy was shown to increase upon going from K5Nd(MoO4)4 to K5Gd(MoO4)4, which correlates with a decrease in the rare earth element’s radius and an increase in the luminescence wavelength when replacing Nd with Gd.
