Abstract

A simple and efficient method has been developed for preparation of nickel hydride complexes bearing N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands and a cyclopentadienyl (Cp) co-ligand, with the general formula [(NHC)Ni(H)(ƞ5-Cp)], in good to excellent yields. This approach involves a halide-to-hydride exchange on readily accessible, bench-stable [(NHC)Ni(Cl)(ƞ5-Cp)] precursors via treatment with NaAlH4 in dioxane at 40°C.
