Abstract
Treatment of 2-alkoxy-3-methylpyrazines with HNO3 /H2SO4 induces an unusual reaction accompanied by the methyl group nitration with the formation of (trinitromethyl)pyrazines, a structural motif previously unknown in diazine family.
