Abstract

Sodium tert-butoxide promoted reaction between isobutyrophenone and excess (> 4mol) benzaldehyde gives anti-1,3-dibenzoyloxy- 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-diphenylpropane, a product of sequential aldol–Tishchenko and Tishchenko reactions.
